send out a Zoom link  enabling you to participate and vote online.

A Note from Pastor Sarah

We are now well into the season of Epiphany, a time when we are invited to come and see the goodness of God through the life of Jesus, the one who was born into this world of pain and despair for the sake of each one of us.

Mark tells us that the heavens were torn apart with the baptism of Jesus, and then off he was sent, into the wilderness before beginning his ministry and calling his first disciples. Oh, the uncertainty that must have existed back then! But, Jesus was ready for what lay ahead, equipped with the power of the Holy Spirit. And as for the disciples, well they had no idea what was in store when they answered the call, “Follow me.” And yet, they willingly cast aside their previous life, knowing there was something extraordinary about the one inviting them. Today, Jesus gives us that same invitation, “Follow me,” and in the world of uncertainty that has been swirling around us for quite some time, that invitation might feel rather comforting. While this invitation to follow is not free of hardship, it is an invitation to some really amazing company along the journey…that of our Lord and Savior, the Light of the World. And that is what makes all the difference.

In this season of Epiphany, we are reminded of the Light of Christ that shines within each of us, the light that continues to give us strength and hope, the light that we can also share with those around us. I’ve witnessed the Light of Christ active in so many ways at our church recently…

through those who selflessly gave of their time and talents when we were worshiping solely online (especially the musicians for their work with the music each week, those who helped with videoing and video editing, and all others who worked behind the scenes to make those services happen).

through all who have supported the youth with their drive-through caramel roll fundraisers.

through those who helped make an in-person Christmas Eve service happen in a safe and creative way.

through all who have contributed to recent outreach projects, most recently by donating fleece blankets and other essential supplies.

through those who gathered together at an outdoor Prayer Service for Peace on 1/19 (thank you to Barb Burk for coming forward with that idea and helping to organize the event).

The people of Zion really do step up and shine their lights in some very creative and inspiring ways!

In this season of Epiphany, think about the ah-ha moments you have witnessed…those moments that you have seen God active in the world and in the people around you. God is at work and on the move in our lives, revealed to us in so many ways.

As we journey through the rest of Epiphany and approach the season of Lent, may we all find strength and comfort in the One who invites us to follow…the One who shines within us and walks beside us always.

God’s Blessings, Pastor Sarah
